 Renewable Energy

An Overview of Solar Energy and Wind Energy

by David Neich

Renewable energy sources or (RES) capture their energy from already established alternatives from on-going natural processes, such as sunshine, wind, flowing water, biological processes, and geothermal heat flows

In 2006 there was a very significant amount of renewable energy consumption to the tune of 18% of global final energy, with the next largest amount being 13% derived from what is called biomass energy referring to living and recently dead biological material. In this context, biomass refers to plant matter grown to generate electricity.

Modern energy technologies including wind power, solar power, and ocean energy made up 0.8% of final energy consumption, so there is a long way to go and a great future for these energy types. As the other technologies start to drop off and become unpopular and less friendly to the environment and also become too expensive, the green technologies will definitely become more attractive.

There is the concern of climate change which is pushing along the desire for more renewable energy possibilities and new legislation to make the formats more possible to implement. The amount of capital investment that has been injected into renewable energies climbed from $80 billion dollars in 2005 to $100 billion in 2006 and is only going to increase over time due to the desire for more friendly fuels and the need to make the earth cleaner and for it to hopefully last longer.

Mark Z. Jacobson, a professor of civil and environmental engineering at Stanford University has found that the most promising forms of energy available now and are in wind, concentrated solar which users mirrors to heat liquids geothermal, tidal, solar photovoltaic’ s (otherwise solar panels), wave and hydroelectric.

The raw energy sources that are considered to be the best are broadly based in wind and solar. This makes a lot of sense and I think overall that the common concern about what one to go with is up to the individual, but the one form of energy that does outstrip the others in the form of being the more efficient and better value is wind power. Some will argue. The sun is the energy source that is everywhere where the wind is not so it makes sense to make the most from it. the best way

Wind power contributes to reducing the amount of carbon dioxide emissions. When it comes down to wind turbines they are much more effective to have them off the main land because you will be able to gather a huge amount of the sea breezes which when harnessed is where the real power will come from. It is said to be approximately fifty percent more efficient then the equivalent ones on the mainland.

The most favored types of renewable energy are ones that are available to us now in formats that are accessible to the average person being wind energy and solar energy. approximately 95% of the energy that is consumed in the United States is from renewable sources. This is very exciting due the fact that people are looking forward to being able to implement solutions at a level that will impact them directly in the hip pocket and at the same time be an advantage to the environment.

The other advantage of wind generators for the home is that you don’t need anywhere as much equipment to generate a similar amount of power as you would if it was solar.

A best seller from Amazon is "The Renewable Energy Handbook" by William H. Kemp is a legend in the renewable arena and an extremely popular and informative book that is definately recommended, it's a fantastic read.
